Kenscoff // day 3

Yesterday we went back to Kenscoff to the Guilbert Community to finish up our work on the homes. We started the day unloading a truck of cinder blocks and we got to see the process of the wall being put up. It’s truly amazing to see how a hole in the ground can be transformed into someones house, and with no tools or machinery except for shovels.

Thanks to a bathroom break {and this time not being led off by a local Madame, into an abandoned, gated and locked building} and we got to see one of Pastor Jean Alix’s schools. A few yards down the road, the children spotted us and ran out to greet, hug and hold into us. It was the most incredible, touching experience if love and gratitude that I’ve ever felt!! These beautiful children clung to us like we were rock stars, and it didn’t even matter that they didn’t know who I was.

We were able to meet a local artist Richard Cadet, whose work is beyond incredible, and a recipient of a H1N micro-loan to start up his art business, along with a home from the 100 Homes Project. His paintings were taken to Raleigh and sold in a gallery, tripling his original loan cost, and leaving him with $1,000 in profit after it was all said and done. Simply amazing how God works…

We met Fifi, another recipient of a micro-loan, and new home from the 100 Homes Project. Her story was an amazing portrayal of faith after the earthquake devastated her family. Here’s a pic of her home …

I’m excited to visit the orphanage today and meet all the kids, especially my sponsor kid Claudenet Blanc!!

Stay tuned …
